Why IVF in Greece?

Maybe you are wondering, is IVF better abroad?

In fact, in Greece it is! It is no wonder that Greece is among the top countries for IVF tourism in Europe, providing some of the best IVF clinics in Europe.

  • First of all, the country offers one of the most affordable IVF abroad, with a cost comparable to the very low costs of Eastern European countries. The IVF process with own eggs costs in Greece as low as 3,000-3,500 EUR. Using donated eggs is more expensive, around 5,000-6,000 EUR. But still, the egg donation cost in Greece is very attractive when compared to the respective costs of other countries. Of course, you would have to add the travelling and accommodation costs, but if you act smart and choose any other season apart from the summer, these wouldn’t be too high!
  • In addition, the whole process is very well legislated. The legislative framework governing IVF was established in Greece in 2005. It is a simple and friendly system, which governs both sperm and egg donation, and enables couples of women under 54 years old and of men -regardless of their age- to have access to IVF. There are some limitations for lesbian couples, but these are overcome if one companion states that she is single, since all single women are eligible for IVF treatment. So, if you are considering IVF abroad and you are over or under 40, Greece is the right place for you! The new government act which was voted on May 2022 raised the age limit of women who can perform IVF from 52 to 54 years old. This age limit is one of the highest in the world.
  • Moreover, Greece offers some of the IVF best fertility clinics. Doctors are highly trained and experienced, whereas the clinics feature state-of-the-art technological medical equipment. Doctors are reliable, they speak English – and other languages – and the whole process is safe and systematic. Many clinics have ISO quality certification and this ensures that the whole process abides to the highest health, safety and hygiene international standards.
  • Last but not least, a very important factor that makes Greece the best IVF abroad destination is the fact that there are in reality no waiting lists; the longest a couple would have to wait until the process begins is only three months. This reduces anxiety related to aging and it is a very important factor affecting the psychology of patients.

Process of IVF

Once you have chosen Greece, the steps to follow are not at all complicated. MEDIPASS is by your side to facilitate the process and answer any inquiry you may have.

The first step would be to arrange an initial telephone or Skype consultation free of charge, with a member of the MEDIPASS team or with one of the reliable doctors that MEDIPASS cooperates with. During this session, the doctor is informed of the patient’s medical record, explains the process, and provides a time frame for its completion. There is also the possibility for an on-site consultation at the clinic.

Prior to the consultation: Patients are asked to complete a medical questionnaire and to take specific medical tests (usually in their home country) prior to this first meeting and provide the results to the doctor during the meeting.

The second step is to arrange a first visit to the clinic, during which the doctors will define an individual stimulation protocol. Patients will talk to the nurse in order to get guidance on drugs usage and dosage. They will also sign all formal papers concerning their treatment. Also, the semen is usually collected and frozen so that the male partner will not have to visit the clinic again.

The next and final step is a second and longer visit to the clinic. First, the eggs are collected in an outpatient surgical setting. Then, ultrasounds and blood tests are used, in order to identify the exact right time for the embryo transfer in the uterus. After two days, the woman can travel back home. Procedure success is tested by a maternal blood test about ten days after the process.

At MEDIPASS, we understand that this whole process may be stressful and we are here to help and guide you every step of the way. All you have to do is choose one of the highly specialized MEDIPASS fertility doctors and leave the rest to us.

We will arrange your trip and make sure that this is the best trip of your new life! Greece awaits you to explore why it is called the best IVF abroad destination and a paradise on Earth 🙂
