Dr. Leonidas Ioannou is an Orthopaedic Surgeon at Hygeia Hospital in Athens, Greece. He has extensive experience in dealing with traumas and specializes in shoulder and knee arthroscopic surgery. His work has been presented in several medical international conferences.
Dr. Ioannou has studied medicine in the Department of Health Sciences, School of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Rome, Italy, from where he graduated in 1999 with honors. Since 2011, he is a Diplomate of the Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in Greece, whereas he has participated in numerous conferences both in Greece and abroad, both presenting his work as well as receiving continuing medical education.
Dr. Ioannou has spent two months as a Clinical Fellow in the Shoulder Surgery Unit of the “Istituto Clinico Humanitas" in Milan, Italy.
After completing his studies, Dr. Ioannou has conducted his compulsory service partially at the General Hospital of Livadia and partially at the General Hospital “Metaxa”, in Piraeus, Greece. After that, he was consecutively a Clinical Fellow at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the General Hospital of Livadia, Greece, and a Resident in Orthopaedic Surgery at the 8th Department of Orthopaedic Surgery of the General Hospital “Asclepeion Voulas” in Athens, Greece.
In 2012, he was awarded a Scholarship Clinical Fellowship from the Greek Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology at the “Istituto Clinico Humanitas" in Milan, Italy, where he spent 6 months in the Shoulder and Knee Arthroscopic Surgery Unit and in the Shock Wave Therapy and Research Service.
He returned from Milan in June 2013 and spent the next year as an Orthopaedic Surgeon at the E.R. Department of the General Hospital “Asclepeion Voulas” in Athens, Greece. Since July 2013, he is an Orthopaedic Surgeon at “Hygeia” Hospital in Athens, Greece.
Dr. Ioannou has presented his work in several Greek and international conferences, whereas he has participated as an invited speaker in numerous conferences and round table discussions. In total, he has attended 46 conferences so far.
In 2006, he won his first prize for the best announcement in the 62th Panhellenic Congress of Orthopaedic Surgery in Athens, Greece (G. Sapkas, K.Kateros, S. Papadakis, B. Sakellariou, L. Ioannou. “Comparative study: two level or single level posterior spinal spondilodesis for burst, instable toraco-lumbar fractures”)
Dr. Ioannou is a registered member of the Medical Association of Athens and the Greek Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology.
